A Ductless Central Air Conditioning Review

Although ductless central air conditioning has been extremely popular in Europe and Asia for many years, it has only started to catch on in the United States recently. The reason for this is that building methods in both Europe and Asia don’t generally allow for ducts to be built into the homes.

In the ductless system a single outdoor compressor serves several evaporator coils, each with its own fan and located in the various rooms around the house. Each of the indoor units is located on the upper half of the wall due to the fact that this is where hot air collects. The electrical and condensation lines are run on the outside of the building.

There are several advantages to ductless central air conditioning over the window installed units. The ductless system is more attractive and distributes heat or cool air more efficiently, however ductless systems can be more expensive than those traditionally installed, depending on several variables such as the number of rooms in the home. A whole house dehumidifier system might also be worth considering if you are living in a high humidity area. At this point there is little likely hood of the ductless system replacing the traditional ducted central air conditioning found in the United States. The ductless solution is applicable in those rare instances where a ducted system has not been or cannot be installed.

Central air conditioning systems are found throughout the United States and work through a series of ducts that run throughout the home, carrying dehumidified and/or cold air supplied by a condenser and compressor unit which is located on the outside of the house. One of the advantages to this setup is that it is less noisy than indoor units. Another of the advantages of the central air conditioning systems is that the air circulates in a cycle allowing for the installation of a filter that strains out impurities in the air, such as dust are removed. In some cases ultra fine filters can be installed that can even remove microscopic pollutants.

Another alternative when the homeowner is looking for an ideal indoor environment is to purchase one of the many ductless portable air conditioning units on the market today. Although not generally as powerful as the ducted system the portable units do have several other advantages. These units use less electricity and therefore reduce the households’ carbon footprint while allowing the homeowner the freedom to move the unit to where it is most needed. Many of the portable units also have filters to remove impurities from the air much like their portable dehumidifier counter parts. The more expensive of the portable units also feature humidifiers. Air condition repair are also easier on the portable units.

Whether the household has ductless central air conditioning, a standard central air conditioning system or the choice has been made to supplement the existing air conditioning system through the purchase of a portable air conditioning unit there is no question that air conditioning has made a difference to the quality of life of people all over the world, especially in those areas where high temperatures are a fact of life, such as in the Southern United States where year round the need for air conditioning is something that is taken for granted.
